Online Radio

Host

Wouldn't it be kind of cool if you had your own Radio Station, and FAST? Well by the end of this tutorial you will.

I will try my best to get you started with broadcasting your very own internet radio station! I have personally just started playing around with the idea, and it seems like something id like to have a greater understanding of, for the future.

Anyway enough about me, lets get to the good stuff.

Now you can view MY sample radio station right here on my blog, i have the link on the home page. However it will most likely be offline because i do not have a computer that i can leave running 24/7... I am using a free radio streaming site, which seems to offer a decent service (i really dislike the advertising however, hence the word "decent"). But hey its free! right? Here is the link to sign up. You can have a maximum of 1000 listeners per server, if im not mistaken.

Next once you have set up your own server you will again require the right software! I am currently using a program called RadioBOSS. You can purchase it here. Or acquire it by whatever means you choose! Any how, the program is not so expensive and if you are serious about this radio station you might want to pay for a server also! A little investment can take you a long way. I also know of a program called "Sam2", also great from what i have read. Can also be found for free, just like anything on the internet these days!

Ok once you have this server set up and a basic "radio automation" software ready, you will need to connect the two. This is made very simple with the programs i have provided you with, so heres how.

When you set up you server, you will be provided with the following information:

These are examples:
Server IP / Host: s1.myradiostream.com
Server Port: 17576
Stream Password: ****** <--- this is the password that you have set in your signup. Server Bitrate: 128kbps Now to connect the two you will need to know the Server IP / Host, Port, and Password. Now open the software you are using to automate your station, in this case RadioBOSS.

 1) Go to settings and select preferences.

2) Select the Broadcast tab, and select any Output tab you want, this wont matter unless you have multiple servers connected.

3) Notice where it says: Shoutcast = address:port  and Icecast = address:port/mount

you will be using the shoutcast format.

 4) In the "Server" box, paste in your "Server IP / Host address" followed directly by a colon ":", and then the "Server Port" right after. As i said earlier in the Shoutcast format. Also dont forget the password box. example:

[] Broadcasting enabled

[] Enabled

Server
[s1.myradiostream.com:17576]

Password:
[******]

Encoder Type:
[MP3]

Once you have filled this information in, you should be good to connect. I would recommend that you hold off on that for just a few moments.

Next, go to your server. Check to see that it is online and running, you might want to click restart just incase! When you are happy with the title of your station, genre, description, etc... Tick the Enabled box in the tab you are in. And then the main Broadcasting Enable box.
Like so:

[x] Broadcasting enabled

[x] Enabled

Server
[s1.myradiostream.com:17576]

Password:
[******]

Encoder Type:
[MP3]

Note: the instructions to sign up for a server are provided on the website, and i managed to get it working right off the bat! If you would like though i can write instructions myself, let me know what you think about that

Now you close the settings window, and you should see in your Feed that you are connected to the server. RadioBOSS is very simple to use, so play around with it and have fun broadcasting!
Also when you are signed in to your server you can find html/javascripts that you can use to link your station to your blog/website!

Thats all there is to it.
